Caring for the Environment
My name is Jake Robbins, and this is my story about a track that I produced and it went aboard to make people in my region discover the importance of caring for Mother Nature.
Some History about me
I started music quite late than I had anticipated – that is singing for a dime; doing music as a career. Music was my lifestyle. Since I was young I had this lovely voice which I used to my advantage to entertain the congregation at the church that I was attending back then as well as at school. I was lucky to also been gifted with an amazing ability of creativity which when blended with the song that I composed resulted to a magnificent piece of artistic music which was praised by most of my audience.
However, I had anticipated that by 12, I would be at a position to sing commercially, but it was until I was 17 that I produced my first track which I had written when I was about 13. After its release, I had anticipated that it would be a big hit, only for it to enjoy a bit of airplay from our local radio stations during the first 2 months after production and then everyone ‘must’ have forgotten about it. This was all replicated in my next 15 tracks and I decided to give up on music.
I became frustrated because I had spent a fortune chasing at what I believed was my destiny yet the rewards were dismal. Therefore after about 4 years of chasing my would-be dreams, I decided to go back to college where I studied Earth Science. It wasn’t much of a course because it never guaranteed a ‘magical life’ that any scholar would yearn for, but I had no choice given the poor grades that I had scored in college. Anyway, I still found passion in it given the lovely and fun-filled college life that I got introduced to.
While in college, I would perform at various gigs organized by various clubs in college and I was quiet popular. Despite that, my popularity never went beyond the gate of the college grounds but that didn’t worry me much.
A song to Mother Nature
While I was in my final year of study, there happened to be a conference hosted by my country. Among the invitees was UNEP office, several presidents of various countries, environment experts and other dignitaries who would converge for three days in our capital to discuss the ways forward to reduce environmental pollution.
I didn’t think much of the event but I decided to compose a song about my love for the environment. The song was an appeal to all humans to protect and conserve the resource that Mother Nature has provided for us. I went to carefully write the lyrics and then composed a lovely tune which beseeched people to care for the environment. Given that I was studying Earth Science, I was able to craft a very educating, yet inspiring and entertaining song.
As the event approached, I sought the help of my college professor who was very enthusiastic and helped me get a few minutes of the events schedule to perform my song.
That day, live on TV and before my president as well as other presidents & dignitaries I perform what would later be a hit song. The applause that I got after the performance and the different commentaries form various speakers & presenters sparked a new wave of energy because the song was overly appreciated.
Turning Point
It dominated radio stations for a long time and then used as a sound track to a documentary that UNEP in collaboration with National Geographic Committee were creating. Therefore there was need to shoot a video version of the song and before I knew it I was back into music.
Despite my fame, I ensured that I concentrated on the remaining months till my graduation and then armed with a considerable fan base, went back to music. All courtesy of my love for Mother Nature.
